- Questionnaire for residents and program directors
- Fellowship application process changes
- GI Review Course
1. Questionnaire for residents and program directors.
The questionnaire developed by Wayne was reviewed, and copies made available for circulation during the Winter Forum. Additional copies will be mailed to program directors for distribution to their residents; feedback obtained will be used to help guide the Section’s future activities. The importance of broader representation and designated contact people at each program was emphasized.
2. Fellowship application process changes.
Christoph announced that the Association of University Radiologists (AUR) had voted to change the application process for all fellowships to a match system, akin to that used for the National Residency Matching Program. Pending approval by fellowship program directors, this change will be in effect for the upcoming application cycle (for fellowships starting July, 2004).
Meeting adjourned at 7:00 pm., with beginning of the Winter Forum.
Winter Forum Summary:
Search One placement agency gave a presentation on the job search process for graduating residents and fellows. Data on the number of openings, geography, subspecialties, and types of practice were presented, and the specifics of evaluating individual practice options were reviewed.
Multiple radiologists from local private and academic practices then gave short individual talks reviewing their opinions on fellowship training; to a person, all felt fellowships were an important adjunct to residency, and recommended post-residency training in whatever field interests the resident. A discussion including these speakers, the Search One representatives, and residents in attendance then ensued. Forum adjourned at 8:40 p.m.
