Welcome to the Massachusetts Radiological Society Resident and Fellow Section!
ACR, ABR, NERRS, ARRS, AUR, MRS, RSNA - STOP THE INSANITY!
The Massachusetts Radiological Society Resident & Fellow Section is pleased to report a successful start to our 2007-2008 academic year. We are proud to have continued active participation among residents throughout all of Massachusetts area. We had a record turnout for our welcome reception in which well over 100 radiology residents across our state gathered to talk about our MRS, the ACR, the DRA and the future of our profession. We have a committed governing council representing not only the programs in the Boston but those in the west of the state as well.
Our fall conference, intended to educate our members regarding what lay in waiting for them as they made career decisions, featured a panel of radiologists – some about to venture into practice, some in academics, some in private practice and some who had experienced both. The event was well attended and received rave reviews. We have had requests both from panelists and attendee residents alike that we have another similar panel sometime in the near future.
Our plans for the winter and spring include a lecture on leadership from Dr. Richard Gunderman, the Vice Chairman of Radiology and Director of Pediatric Radiology at Indiana University. Dr. Gunderman is also a PhD in philosophy and has an academic appointment in IUPUI’s department of philosophy. Dr. Gunderman is an inspirational as well as entertaining and informative speaker and we are honored to have him as a guest lecturer. Our thanks to Drs. Wald and Bakal at the Lahey for helping to make this great event a reality. We encourage all residents across the state to make an effort to attend this April 28th event and know that the programs will do all that they can to facilitate resident participation.
Additionally we will continue active participation at both the MRS Annual Meeting and the Annual Meeting of the ACR in Washington. On the national level, the RFS is continuing an aggressive resident-driven initiative to build a robust database of MRI teaching cases utilizing the popular Case-in-Point format (mri.acr.org). The MRS-RFS is intimately involved in the evolution of this project and our own Dr. Greg Miller, past MRS-RFS chair and current MRS-RFS advisor as an editor for this project.
As you can see, we have been busy and we intend on keeping busy. Many thanks go out to the VP Representatives from each training program who have worked hard to keep the momentum going. We look forward to continuing to serve the needs and interests of radiology and radiology oncology residents throughout the Greater Boston area.
Finally, none of this could be accomplished without the ongoing support and generosity of our MRS Chapter Leaders. Please accept enthusiastic thanks on behalf of the entire Resident & Fellow Section.
Respectfully submitted,
